What will you be tasting?

Five districts – Five tastings – Five stories

During the route you’ll cover 17 kilometres and cycle from district to district. You will visit the districts: Hoogkwartier, Afrikaanderwijk, Middelland, Crooswijk and Kralingen. The tour takes about 4 hours and can be booked on most days of the week. The sweet and savoury snacks you’ll receive together will form an extensive lunch.

During Food ‘n Route you’ll taste:

(NB: These tastings are included in the summer edition of Food ‘n Route running until end September)

Stubborn chocolates at Chocoholic (Hoogkwartier)
Marco from Chocoholic makes chocolate and bonbons. He is always working on new structures and new flavours. Nothing ordinary in his store. Taste crazy chocolates with whiskey, tomato and onion.

Vegan designer cakes at Sharp Sharp (Afrikaanderwijk)
Renate & Frank from Sharp Sharp make vegan sweets like cakes, cookies, bars and granola. They are not only concerned with taste and the look, but also with the origin of the ingredients.

Lahmacun (Turkish pizza) at Kaya Pastanesi (Middelland)
The bakery of the Kaya family has existed already for 38 years. Father runs the bakery bakes and daughter and son-in-law run the shop with fantastic baklava and freshly baked lahmacun.

Vegetable salad at Obst & Gemüse (Crooswijk)
John of restaurant Obst & Gemüse presents fruit and vegetables in a culinary way. With a terrace right on the Rotte, you can enjoy a mix of different salads.

Platter with glass of wine at Casa Reinders (Kralingen)
In addition to their stall in the Market Hall, the Reinders family has a tasting room on the Vlietlaan in Kralingen. Here you will find Mediterranean products from small manufacturers such as dried sausage, ham, cheese and olive oil.

About the creator of the tour

ArianeHi, I’m Ariane. Guide in Rotterdam and founder and owner of Inside Rotterdam. With Food ‘n Route I wanted to come up with a Corona proof outing: accessible, culinary and safe.

In this audio food tour you go off the beaten track and dive into the neighborhood. The majority of visitors and residents recreate in the city centre. That’s a pity, because there is soo much to discover in the districts of Rotterdam. Each district is completely different and has its own story and charm. Hidden alleys, the nicest local entrepreneurs, green corners and beautiful terraces.
Food ‘n Route is an adventurous and delicious exploration of five Rotterdam neighbourhoods. Each and every one of them are small local entrepreneurs that I have worked with for years. They are somewhat hidden, overflowing with passion for their products and have a beautiful story.
